Several Wounded In Lightning Strike

Several women selling in the Zeon Town Market, ELWA Community were yesterday rushed to hospital after a lightning struck their market, leaving several of them wounded and unconscious.

According to some of the bystanders, the incident occurred during the morning hours on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 during a torrential rainfall. The remorseless lightning struck the community, and physically hit the market, including other homes, leaving several persons injured.

“We were selling when it started raining and in few minutes, the lightning struck; this is the first time for such thing to happen here,” one of the female sellers stated.

“This is very strange; for almost twenty plus women to be hit by lightning is strange; we need to check,” a bystander also stated.

Most of the wounded sellers who were taken to hospital were seen in very critical conditions, as some of them lay unconscious and helpless, while others were seen vomiting with blood. “This is scaring; the conditions of these women are worrisome; we hope the government’s disaster management team would get to their aid,” another seller stated.

Some of the victims who were taken to nearby clinics were seen attended to by health workers, while their family members stood still, with others bitterly crying for fear of not losing their loved ones. “Hey God, Daddy, come to our call hey; we are calling on you to help save the lives of our family members,” some of the family members prayed in tears.

Our reporter who immediately went on the scene of the incident vividly saw some of the victims being taken to the ELWA Hospital and other community clinics for medical treatment, and as the crowd of community members increased, there was a prayer of community pastors offering prayers.

“In the name of Jesus, we lay hands on these saints of yours to receive their healing right now in the name of Jesus; Amen,” Some of the pastors and prayer warriors stated in their prayers.

The incident occurred in the populated community of Block-D in Zeon Town Community where Zeon Town Community Chairman, David Bryant resides, but Chairman Bryant was not present, leaving Block-D Chairman, Koko Wreh  with the responsibility of the entire situation.

According to him, his wife too was wounded in the process and was very unconscious due to the strike of the thunder, leading to a strike of the lightning. Over ten women sustained major injuries.

Meanwhile, Chairman David Bryant is calling on the government to get to their aid at least by providing some assistance to the victims. Chairman David is further calling on the religious community to join the leadership of the Community to pray for God’s healing upon the victims and protection of the residents.

The community had experienced series of disasters as the result of flooding, storms and the lightning strike, which hit schools, private residences and market buildings. During the rainy season, several homes in the community were affected by flood, thereby rendering several residents homeless.
