The Police detachment in Nimba has issued warning to senatorial candidates in the by-election in Nimba to campaign peacefully and do away with election related violence.
Speaking to the Inquirer, Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) Mendin Larmie, says election is the form of pure democracy and warns all citizens and senatorial candidates to observe the rule of law during the campaign process .
According to ACP Larmie, senatorial candidates wishing to canvas or carry out campaign activities should inform the police for security protection in the wake of the by-election in the county .
Larmie warning was released in the wake of a report of tribal politics gaining hold among the residents and those eyeing the senate position .
Many of the candidates are reportedly engaged in preaching Gio and Mano politics coupled with sympathies from other related dialects .
Speaking on the same issue, traditional chief and elder council chairman, Robert Sehneah, said the police warning is in the right direction in the wake of ongoing heated campaign activities in the nine electoral districts in Nimba .
Speaking in separate remarks, former Bain -Garr district education officer, (DEO) David Kizie , calls on Candidates in the race to tell the electorates what they will do if elected, rather than preaching tribal politics.
“NEC is hearing a complaint filed against Edith Gongloe-Weh over matters of integrity during registration of the biometrics voter card, these issues are worrisome, we want the election to be peaceful,” former DEO Kizie stated.
The senatorial by- election will be contested by candidates officially qualified by NEC. They include Mack Gblinwon, Edith Gongloe-Weh , Garrison Yeanue , Representative Samuel Kogar, Maternonkay Tingban, T. Wonlerkay Farngalo , George Gonpu Zankar, respectively .
