Senator Wants Citizens Receive Basis Needs Before Lockdown

The Chairperson on the Senate Statutory Committee on Executive is calling on government to respond to the basic needs of the citizenry before a possible lockdown.
Montserrado County Senator, Saah H. Joseph, indicated that in order for the government to impose a lockdown action, there is a need for state actors to discuss and come out with strategies that will help citizens have basic needs.
“Well, for us to get to a point of lockdown, the Legislature and Executive will have to sit and come out with a plan of action because if you want to lockdown Montserrado and Margibi Counties, our citizens in the other counties depend on these counties, especially Monrovia for most of their basic needs, such as rice, gasoline etc, and how do you address this,” Senator Joseph contended.
He stated that even the basic needs of those in Montserrado will have to be addressed, that would be “stable and affordable electricity as well as stable safe water for the residents,” he expressed.
Senator Joseph added that in the absence of these basic necessities, there will be a very negative effect on the citizenry if a lockdown is to be imposed.
The Senate Chair on Executive further indicated that the government needs to continue with the awareness and ensure that the health measurers already enforced are follow to the letters averring that with the collective efforts applied to eradicate the deadly Ebola virus, similar should be applied to containing the coronavirus.
Sen. Joseph at the same time called on the citizens to follow the health protocols and help government in increasing the awareness in their respective communities stating that while on its break, the senators should also be actively involved in creating the necessary awareness in combating the coronavirus.
He disclosed that while on break, the leadership of the Senate will remain active on Capitol Hill so as to collaborate with the other branches of government in the national response in combating the virus.
Sen. Joseph promised that he and the team from the First Responders will be on the field to elevate the awareness processes in the various communities across Montserrado and at the same time is warning Liberians to stop the denial and go by the instructions of the government so as to remain save.
Meanwhile, at the House of Representatives, Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon and some representatives have buttressed the call for the government to lockdown Montserrado and Margibi Counties as a positive mean of containing the virus from spreading.
