Senate Probes Sen. Nyonblee Over Assault, Others

 The Liberian Senate on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, has instructed its specialized Committee to investigate Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence due to a complaint filed by Montserrado County Senator, Saah H. Joseph. 

 The Senate’s decision follows a motion proffered by Maryland County Senator, Dan Marias in which he craved the Senate to establish an impartial committee to hastily probe the Senate’s Chair on Rules, Orders and Administration, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and report to Plenary Session for senate’s action.

 Last Thursday, August 22, 2019,   Senator Lawrence’s emotions witnessed her wasting hot tea water on Saah Joseph and physically assaulted him while walking to their respective offices from session.  

The Liberty Party political leader told newsmen following her action, that she has no remorse for her action against Montserrado County Senator.  She however, blamed her action against the Chair on Executive due to decision to abruptly adjourn session- thus prohibiting like-minded Senators to cross-examine the Police Inspector General following his testimonies. 

  Nyonblee’s investigation was triggered by Senator Joseph’s letter of complaint against his colleague (Nyonblee] to Plenary Session alleging of unprovoked assault and terroristic threat rained against him on August 22, 2019 by Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.

“This occurred immediately while on my way out of session; she resorted to raining invectives incessantly on me. She went further to yank at my cloths and splashed hot water on my body in the presence of many onlookers.  In furtherance of her actions, she pursued me to my office but had to be denied entry; otherwise, I would have been bodily harmed.  Throughout the attack, I restrained myself from retaliating due to my respect for colleagues of the Liberian Senate,” he indicated in his complaint addressed to Senate Pro-tempore, Albert Chie.    

Following the motion, Senator Conmany Wesseh  requested   the  movant[ Dan Marias] to amend  his  motion, since the letter mentioned “ Terroristic Threat”  which  he claimed belongs to the Police, and  recommended  that  Sen. Joseph’s letter should be sent to the police for probe rather than the Senate due to its grave nature, but the movant [Dan Maoris] denied  the amendment motion on grounds that such  is not in  their rules.     

Meanwhile, the embattled Senator Lawrence failed to render an apology as indicated in her facebook page. The Grand Bassa County Senator for assaulting her colleague and apologized to her supporters and fans with a promise to hug her colleague while stating that a communication of apology was on desk to be presented yesterday.
