The Harbel Community College students are appealing for the dismissal of Dr. Syrulwa Somah.
According to them, the current president of the College is ‘unfit’ to lead, but most importantly, unable to account for allotment provided the college.
Somah is unreachable to comment on the allegations however, the students are calling on President George Weah to dismiss Somah as president of the college.
The students’ protest is that if their demand is not adhered to, they will have no alternative but to carry out civil disobedience at other public schools in the county.
On behalf of the student, the spokesperson, James Karnga, accused Somah of “inciting or instigating” certain portion of the college’s faculty to dropped their tools which demonstrates his ineptitude to manage the school.
The protesting students stated, among many things, that since Somah became president of the college in 2016, they been paying “unnecessary fees” for activities like computer, laboratory and library that do not exist on the campus.
“We shall present, to the Education Ministry and the National Commission on Higher Education but most importantly, to the Margibi County’s Legislative Caucus, a statement demanding Somah’s dismissal,” they contended.
Almost a month now, academic activities at the Harbel College has been grounded as lecturers and administrative staff are demanding improved regular supply electricity, laboratory, library, teacher’s lunch and vehicles as well as workers’ monthly salaries.
