A nongovernmental organization, Liberia Free Medical and Surgical and Rural Volunteers (LFMSV) has disclosed plans to carry out its free medical and surgical services to most vulnerable population residing in Liberia.
The LFMSV stated that the second phase of the initiative which will witness the administering of free medical surgery is expected to last for 10 days between July 15-25, as it will be done in Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County.
Addressing a news conference yesterday in Monrovia, one of the LFMSV founding members, Alh. Moibah E.N. Sherif Sherif stated that he and his colleague’s decision to offer the free surgery is intended to buttress government through affordable healthcare delivery as well as in the delivery of healthcare to its citizens.
Mr. Sherif who is also the Assistant Director HR Planning and Policies at the Ministry of Health (MoH) named abdominal surgeries, Hernia, lipoma and other life-saving diseases or sicknesses that are expected to be carried out.
It can be recalled that, on March 15 – 25, 2022, the LFMSV embarked on its first and historical free medical surgical program in Porkpa District, at the Damballa Health Center in Gbarpolu County, where the team conducted 238 surgical cases, inclusive of abdominal surgeries, Hernia, lipoma and other life-saving cases with 710 circumcisions for children.
According to him, their decision to carry out their activities in Cape Mount was also as a result of numerous calls and pleas from citizens to extend its gesture to other parts of the country owing to the fact that the first phase of his organization life-saving initiative left a great impact in Gbarpolu.
He added that with support from partners, the LFMSV is committed to remain actively engaged with the people of Porkpa and Gola Konneh Districts in particular and Liberia at large as means to address their needs especially in the areas of health.
Mr. Sherif who puts the cost of the life-saving initiative at US$48,000 thanked the Liberian government, the CHO of Cape Mount, the MoH Asst. Minister for Curative Services as well as its international partners among others.
However, the Liberia Free Medical and Surgical Rural Volunteers (LFMSV) is a non-for-profit and humanitarian non-governmental organization that was funded by a Fellow of America College of Surgeons/Board Certified Surgeon, Dr. George M. Peter and the MoH Assistant Director HR Planning and Policies Alh. Moibah E.N. Sherif.
Furthermore, the goal of the LFMSV is to provide healthcare delivery services to the underprivileged population of Liberia in general with focus on rural communities; to a general extent, the Liberian healthcare seeking population.
Additionally, the LFMSV engages in the conduct of Health system survey, community health and sanitations, school health program, maternal and child health, training in health service delivery and administration, surgical outreach on the free cost basic and health services to inmates.
