Rotten Food Commodities Spark Concerns In Nimba

By Solomon T. Gaye
The alleged increase of rotten frozen food on the market has been linked to the West Africa Enterprises INC in Gompa City, Nimba County.
Mamie Gayetaye, a resident accused the W. A. E INC. of being the sole dealer of frozen food that is in the habit of selling rotten fish in cartoons as well as chicken feet and other frozen food items to marketeers in the Gbloryee Market.
According to Madam Gayetaye, the resale of rotten fish to consumers coupled with the Enterprise’s alleged refusal to refund the cash paid for the rotten products is among factors contributing to health issues as well as dishonesty among marketeers in Nimba.
“The odor of rotten frozen food is polluting the entire Congo Community thereby creating hazards for neighboring residents,” Madam Gayetaye stated.
“We are begging the government to closely monitor these cold storages engage in the selling of frozen food so as to raid the rotten frozen food off the market,” she expressed.
Since the beginning of December 2024, rotten fish, chicken and pig feet including other frozen products are reportedly on the increase in almost all the community markets in Gompa.
Gompa City is among the fast-growing cities with over 30 communities and over 10 frozen food dealers.
Victoria Dagoseh, another resident, further alleged that the selling of rotten fish by many frozen food dealers in Gompa is being backed by authorities of the Ministry of Commerce in the county alleging that, “Every cold storage in Gompa gets special prices for any of the rotten fish, pig feet, and chicken feet they buy.”
When this paper contacted the manager of the W. A. E INC. over the weekend, he refused to say a word on the matter to press, while the commerce office in Gompa over the weekend was closed.
