RIA Management Certifies Firefighters, Passenger Boarding Bridge Operators

The Management of Roberts International Airport (RIA) has awarded certificates to several employees who completed specialized training programs in Passenger Boarding Bridge operations and the use of the airport’s new fire truck.
The newly certified employees are from the Motor Pool and the Fire, Safety, and Rescue departments.
Speaking at the certification ceremony held in the Roberts International Airport conference room, Jeror H. Mendscole, Managing Director of the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), commended the graduates for their dedication, discipline, and commitment throughout the training.
He highlighted that their efforts reflect the airport’s shared goal of ensuring that the LAA continues to deliver world-class services while adhering to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
“To our firefighters, your role is crucial to the safety of our airport. The knowledge and skills you have gained will not only protect lives but also strengthen the resilience of our infrastructure”, Mendscole said.
The seasoned aviator also emphasized the importance of the Passenger Boarding Bridge operators, noting their vital role in ensuring safe and efficient service for the thousands of passengers passing through the airport.
He added that their commitment helps ensure a seamless and positive experience for travelers at Roberts International Airport and other facilities.
“As you return to your duties, I encourage you to apply the skills and knowledge you have acquired with excellence and professionalism. The success of our airports depends on our collective efforts to uphold the standards that define a premier aviation facility,” Mendscole stressed.
He also disclosed that the airport has reached an agreement with a Ghanaian institution to provide regular training programs aimed at building the capacity of airport workers.
Also speaking at the event, Egon Mark Kuiah, Deputy Managing Director for Operations at LAA, emphasized the importance of training in achieving desired results from airport staff.
“My office will not hesitate to push the LAA administration and the government to ensure that our Fire Service Department becomes the best in the country”, Kuiah stated.
He encouraged the graduates to seek further training beyond Liberia and identify international programs relevant to their work, with management’s support for sponsorship.
In his remarks, James Mulbah, Port Manager of Roberts International Airport, expressed gratitude to the airport’s management for the support.
He encouraged the graduates to apply their newly acquired knowledge to enhance safety at the airport. Mulbah also revealed that the next training for airport workers would be an international program, designed to bring them up to speed with global industry standards.
The Passenger Boarding Bridge training was facilitated by Mr. Henry P. Nah, while the fire training was led by Mr. David Debie, a trained firefighter who has participated in several international training programs.
