Rev. Nelson Urges Prospective UMU Graduates

The guest speaker of the Baccalaureate Service of the 16th Commencement Convocation of the United Methodist University (UMU), Julius Julukon Sarwolo Nelson, says not everything is to be verbal even if the ears hear it because human beings are never satisfied with life. He urged the 1000 would-be graduates in the various disciplines of the university to not always speak on things their eyes see or the ears hear are not to be spoken about because there are some things which are not for talking about.
He said if there will be harmony in the home and if there is harmony in the home there will be order in the nation and if order is in the nation, there will be peace in the world pointing out, “You get something you don’t want it and you want something you don’t get it.”
Preaching from the scriptural text of Exodus 14: 10-15, Rev. Nelson told the graduates that ‘People are never satisfied’ even as people come to worship God in spirit and in truth. He explained how God gave the people in the days of old everything; yet they were not satisfied and complained.
Rev. Nelson said even as Liberia as a nation is 172 years Liberians are ready to give up on God and are still complaining adding, “We are never satisfied. We are all part of either of the three positions named by the Independence Day orator yet we are looking at our back and getting ready to explore the land in Egypt; parents are never satisfied until their children are today graduating.”
“Even as it is your time to graduate, you are still complaining. People complain about everything though most people only know how to conjugate the verb ‘To chop’ using the ‘I, me and myself’ method. Why are you complaining about everything as if we are the only human beings created by God? Even though sometimes you are never satisfied for the right reasons while other times people are not satisfied for the wrong reasons,” he preached.
He told Liberians to remember that God is still in charge screaming, “Turn to God. Call on God in the morning He will be there; call on God in the afternoon, He will be there and call on God in the midnight hour, He will still be there. Be yourself so that when people start complaining you will stand your ground; do not be afraid. Whenever you depend on God for direction, protection, guidance and provider, He will not fail you.”
“To not think of yourself but with sober, sound and logical judgment in accordance with the measure of your faith God has given you In Christ because we have different gifts, but let each person use their gifts accordingly; ask God for direction,” he admonished the would-be graduates.
Meanwhile, the graduation convocation is expected to be held at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex on Tuesday, August 20.
