More than 50 individuals including executives of a group identified as the “Friends of Weasah (FOW)” in Kakata City, Margibi County, have resigned from the group citing maltreatment and other grievances.
The group, established to support the political ambitions of US-based Liberian Fred P. Weasah, played a key role in his election campaigns in 2017 and 2023. Despite their efforts, Weasah’s electoral performance was disappointing, finishing third in 2017 and fifth in 2023.
Addressing the media in the Sackie Gbomoh Town Community along the Bong Mine Road recently, the former Chairman Amb. Richard D. Jah, highlighted ideological differences and shifting priorities as reasons for their departure.
He explained that in February 2025, members expressed their dissatisfaction to Weasah, listing six key issues including lack of communication, job opportunities, denying leaders’ ability to serve in their capacities during the 2023 election, marginalization and maltreatment, and leadership abandonment.
Jah disclosed that members, supporters and officials of the group reminded Mr. Weasah about the services they rendered him in every way possible in his political sojourn from 2017-2023, but did not receive any honor and respect in return.
He said they also informed Mr. Weasah that it was disheartening and quite frustrating on their parts to see him-philanthropist to treat them below human dignity. “Again, remember that since 2017, we pledged our loyalty and commitment to you as members of the F.O.W, something we remain committed to up to present” he quotes the February 2025 communication.
Despite a one-week ultimatum for a response, Jah intoned that Weasah did not address their concerns, prompting their public resignation. The former F.O.W members however, expressed appreciation for their time with the group, acknowledging assuring the public of their continuous commitment to advocating for social justice, environmental sustainability, and economic justice.
They have requested removal of their personal data from all membership rosters and look forward to continuing their advocacy in other capacities.
When contacted via mobile phone, the then campaign chairman of the F.O.W, Rev. Aleander Frank Lee, II, denied the allegations promising a press statement today.
