Rep. Smith Wants More Support For AFL

Montserrado County Representative for District #1, and House Committee Chairman on National Defense, Col.   wants national government to begin to draw more attention on increased military budget support for Armed Forces of Liberia as a standing national defense force for Liberia.
He observed that in the wake of the current “Convid-19 episode for which many countries were being affected, Liberia is of no exception, and must be prepared for any future eventuality, and so our army must be militarily strong to protect the state and its people”.
Col. Smith observation stemmed from his recent visit to Tumbutu, Mali where a unit of the AFL has been deplored to support and maintain peace in the west African sub-regions “During our visit arid inspection tour of the AFL troops, I observed a high level discipline and courtesy amongst its men and their preparedness to return home and defend their country, a day to come. But all will need a strong budgetary support”, he declared.
He however extolled the president and commander-in-chief of the AFL, Dr. George Manneh Weah for his consent for the national army as well as the construction of 1 4-Military Hospital at its Camp Schefflin Military Base in Montserrado County.
Such support, he said must not only reflect equipment or gears, but increased salaries, drugs and retirement benefits for AFL retirees and their families as this would encourage more young Liberians to seek enlistment into the AFL.
