Religious Council To Host Reconciliation Confab With Political Parties

Liberia International Religious Council (LIRC) Chairman, Rev. Henry W. Paul, has disclosed that plans are underway to host a reconciliation conference with political parties in Liberia.
Speaking, Rev. Paul revealed that the conference is designed to make peace among political leaders, stakeholders, chief elders, women groups, among others, to forget about what transpired during October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
“The election campaign turned sour in all of the 15 counties of Liberia; innocent citizens got wounded and killed during the campaign,” Rev. Paul lamented.
A lot of bad blood remains between the different political parties and their supporters, following a very tense electoral period, and this conference is aimed towards bridging that gap.
During the heat of the presidential run-off campaign, about 12 supporters of Unity Party were shot at with single barrel pistols while touring with Senators Prince Johnson and Jeremiah Koung, in the town of Zor-Zualay in Electoral District 3 of Nimba County, by supporters of CDC.
This was just one of many incidents of violence between the two major parties. It is for this reason that the religious council has deemed it fit to bridge the gap and restore unity.
Chairman Henry Paul also stated that, besides the peace conference, they also plan to honor President George Weah before the swearing-in of the new government in January 2024.
The Chairman named Imam Mohamed Keita, Bishop Borbor Donoe, Rev. Abenego G. Tarr, and Rev. Wilfred Morgan, as sponsors and organizers of the program.
