“Prioritize Early Childhood Education” …ECPN Urges Gov’t

The Executive Director of Liberia Early Childhood Professional Network (ECPN), Rudy T Martin, is urging the Government of Liberia to invest and prioritize early childhood education across the country.

According to her, if Liberia will develop and prosper with a civilized, independent, and critical-thinking society, the government has to prioritize early childhood education.

Addressing the press over the weekend, Martin said the Liberia Early Childhood Professional Network is a network that deals with children from 0 to 8 years old.

“There are many Liberians who have acquired education over the years and can’t defend it because of the faulty early childhood education they received,” she stated.

“Early childhood education is the foundation for building an independent society; if we will have a decent society with a solid educational foundation, the government has to give priority to early childhood education with adequate resource allotment,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the early childhood period encompasses several quite distinct phases, from conception to birth and from birth to 3 years, with emphasis on conception to 24 months, followed by the preschool and pre-primary years- 3 years to 5 or 6 years- or the age of school entry.

She added that global priority is placed on early childhood education, because it is underscored with targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and its professional designation earned through a post-secondary education program.
