As Liberia embarks on a new chapter, President Joseph N. Boakai has urged his countrymen, both at home and abroad, to come together as one family.
Speaking at the Benson Street Central Mosque over the weekend, when he attended intercessory prayer, Boakai gave his Muslim brothers and sisters assurances that he would collaborate with the Muslim community to work in the interest of all Liberians, void of any political, religious, ethnic, as well as social limitations.
He stated that while everyone has the right to practice their religion, religion shouldn’t be a dividing line in the nation, and condemned those attempting to use their religious and tribal affiliations to promote political, religious, and tribal division in the country.
The President noted that, as the nation is heading towards a new direction, all Liberians ought to unite and embrace the task of advancing their homeland.
Amb. Boakai advocated for peace in the nation, particularly among Liberians, saying, “In the new era, people from all over the world will migrate to this country, but will only be when we as Liberians embrace peace and unity among ourselves. We must work and cooperate with our foreign partners because it will be in the interest of the country; and one thing I can assure you is that we will smile again.”
The President’s visit to the mosque was part of the inaugural program line-up for the transfer of political power from the CDC to the UP.
The program was attended by several government officials, as well as foreign dignitaries.
