Poro Active In Nimba …Hampers School Supervision

By Solomon T. Gaye
District Education Officer, Lee Dahn, has claimed that Poro practice in several towns in Nimba is hampering the smooth running of schools in the Lao-Zahn belt in Saclepea Education District 2.
According to DEO Dahn, the practice of the tradition during school time is causing a scare among students and hindering learning activities.
“Members of the fourth estate, due to the Poro activity along Lao-Zahn belt, over thirty public schools are in limbo in that part of the district, and this issue needs the central government’s intervention, because it is creating serious problems among school-going children,” DEO Dahn lamented.
Saclepea contains two education districts, with Two District Education Officers that report to the County Education Officer, Moses Dologbaye.
Poro and Sande activities are highly practiced in various districts in Nimba, with these activities often clashing with more contemporary norms.
When this paper contacted the Traditional Chief Council office in Sanniquellie, the Office Assistant referred the paper to the acting Traditional Council Chief in Saclepea to speak on such an issue.
When CEO, Moses Dologbaye, was contacted at his office in Sanniquellie, the receptionist informed the paper that he had gone in the field.
