The Liberia National Police (LNP) has strongly condemned the deliberate spread of false and misleading information on social media, specifically targeting a defamatory post on the Facebook page “HottFm 107.9 Liberia.”
The post, authored by Randall George and captioned, “UNCOVERED!!! Police IG Coleman Holds Secret Meeting with Self-Styled Majority Bloc Leadership to Indict Embattled Speaker Koffa in the Capitol Building Fire Incident,” is being labeled as false, defamatory, and a blatant attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of the LNP.
According to an official statement from the LNP, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Coleman did attend a meeting at the Capitol Building on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
However, this meeting was in response to an official invitation from the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mildred N. Sayon.
The purpose was to address a complaint filed by Maryland County District 2 Representative concerning an encounter with Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations, Cllr. J. Nelson Freeman, and Officer Melvin Gray.
The LNP clarified that the Inspector General and the named officers attended the meeting in good faith and returned to their respective offices immediately afterward.
The allegations of a “secret meeting” to indict Speaker Koffa have been deemed entirely unfounded and malicious.
In response to the misinformation, the LNP has obtained a screenshot of the now-deleted Facebook post and will include it alongside the official letter of invitation from the Clerk of the House of Representatives as evidence to refute these claims.
The Liberia National Police reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and upholding the rule of law. The public is urged to disregard false narratives and instead rely on verified information from credible sources.
