The Region Five Police Commander, Cool Moses Tamba Sepoh, has acknowledged the critical shortage of police officers in Pleebo Sodoken District, responding to concerns raised by Mayor Larry G. Geekor of Pleebo City.
During a stakeholders and joint security meeting at Pleebo City Hall on October 24, 2024, Commissioner Sepoh, who oversees River Gee, Grand Kru, and Maryland Counties, outlined the pressing need for additional law enforcement officers and resources.
Mayor Geekor earlier highlighted this issue during his induction ceremony, noting that the lack of police presence has contributed to rising crime rates in the area.
Commissioner Tamba Sepoh confirmed that the mayor has formally requested more police officers and the expansion of a police station in the New Pleebo Community to enhance security services for residents.
However, he emphasized that addressing the need for increased police personnel is a national issue that requires intervention from the Liberia National Police (LNP) Headquarters in Monrovia through the Inspector General, Gregory Coleman.
As part of his commitment to improving community safety, Commissioner Sepoh has initiated engagement efforts with local stakeholders and plans to conduct training for members of the Liberia Marketing Association and the Community Watch Forum.
He also announced upcoming training sessions for motorcyclists to reduce traffic accidents and promote road safety.
Meanwhile, Mayor Geekor has expressed gratitude for the Region Five commander’s response to the alarming rise in crime linked to insufficient security resources.
He stressed the importance of securing financial assistance from Maryland lawmakers to bolster security efforts in the district, especially in light of the absence of national allocations.
