Paynesville FC, Watanga FC Secure Crucial Wins In First Division League Heat

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League delivered another round of thrilling action on last week with key victories for defending champions Watanga Football C and league leaders Paynesville FC.
At the D. Tweh Sports Pitch in New Kru Town, Watanga FC returned to winning ways after a narrow 3-2 triumph over struggling Global Pharma FC.
The home side, Global Pharma, began the match aggressively but squandered several scoring opportunities within the opening ten minutes. Michael Kumeh, Sylvester Doe, and Henry Diah came close for the Pharmacists, but Watanga’s goalkeeper proved unbeatable in the first half.
Watanga took the lead through Nuch Zorh, who displayed excellent attacking skills to find the back of the net. However, the celebration was short-lived as Michael Kumeh equalized for Global Pharma after pouncing on a rebound from Sylvester Doe’s effort that struck the woodwork.
The match took a dramatic turn when Watanga were reduced to ten men following Varney Sando’s second booking. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Watanga stunned the home crowd by scoring two quick goals after halftime, with Nuch completing his brace.
Global Pharma attempted a comeback with Nicholas Slewion scoring their second goal, but they failed to capitalize further, allowing Watanga to secure all three points.
Meanwhile, Paynesville FC solidified their position at the top of the league table with a convincing 2-0 win over Shaita FC at the SKD Practice Field. Despite playing with ten men, Shaita FC could not prevent Paynesville from claiming their sixth victory in eight matches. The win puts Paynesville on 18 points, just one ahead of second-placed FC Fassell, who play their eighth match against IE on Thursday.
Elsewhere, Heaven Eleven kept their title hopes alive with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Freeport FC, while Bea Mountain continued their impressive form with a 3-2 win away to Mighty Barrolle at the Doris Williams Stadium in Buchanan.
As the league progresses, the race for the title remains wide open, with teams battling fiercely for supremacy in one of Liberia’s most competitive seasons in recent years.
