Over US$97,000 Bus Terminal Turns Police Depot In Buchanan

Report emanating from Buchanan City, Grand County says, after spending over US$97,000 to construct a bus terminal in the county, the National Transit Authority (NTA) has abandoned its facility due to its poor choice of location.
According to the report, the management of the NTA and passengers have abandoned the constructed terminal in a community known as ‘Own Your Own Community’ in New Buchanan for over nine years without making use of the facility.
Also, as a result, the Liberia National Police (LNP), Bassa detachment, has now turned the abandoned NTA Terminal into a mini depot due to increase in criminal activities in the Own Your Own Community.
It was also gathered that the decision to turn the terminal into a Police station was as a result of an agreement reached, following observations that criminals were using the building as their resting ground.
One of the reasons for the abandonment of the terminal, according to a resident, is due to the isolated location, saying, “It was built in the Own Your Own community, with barely any activity going on nearby. The abandoned terminal was a hub for petty criminals and drug users, which is a scare for passengers.”
Some of the residents further described the terminal as a waste of public funds because it is not serving its purpose, thus appreciating the Liberian National Police for the farsightedness in making use of the facility.
