French Ambassador, Terence Wills says, Liberia is certainly not as fragile as it seemed in the past, stating that the country has generated its own clicks on the wheel of history that prevents it from going back to bad times.Speaking at a program marking the occasion of the French National Day on July 14, at the Ambassador’s residence at Mamba Point, Amb., Terence Wills asserted that Liberia has some strong democratic assets, its communities are at peace and the risk of terrorism, a real preoccupation in West Africa Sahel, is well contained.
He said an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission was in Liberia a few weeks ago and as part of the IMF mission, the Ambassador said, France will support an agreement between Liberia and IMF if they decide thus.
“This agreement should be seen as a springboard and not as a lid on the economy. Perfect mix might be an IMF program, to give Liberian macroeconomics its balance, linked with an innovative policy of processing the natural resources in the country,” he said.
Amb. Wills stated, “Partners, business communities, big concessions; we should all look for innovative ways to process these commodities-agro-industry is a must in this country. It will give Liberia jobs for its youths and foreign currencies.”
French Ambassador Wills also disclosed that he termed as good news that intends to strengthen bilateral relations between Liberia and his country.
Stating, “Bilaterally, we have good news on Schengen Visa by the end of September, Applicants for a Schengen Visa to France will not need any more to travel to Abidjan. They will just apply at the VFS office at the Royal Hotel and the passport will be sent directly to their homes.”
Speaking on behalf of the Government, Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister of Administration, Mawine G. Diggs expressed pleasure and conveyed government’s message of appreciation to be part of France’s 231st Anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, in which said, gave birth to the French Republic.
“On this day, we are again reminded of the universal democratic values including, liberty, equality and justice for all of mankind. These values speak to the inevitability of man’s innate quest for a life of emancipation and happiness,” she said.
Adding, “ On this auspicious occasion, on behalf of President George Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, the Government and people of Liberia, I am delighted to convey heartfelt congratulations and sincere best wishes to his Excellency, Mr. Emmanuel Jean-Michael Frederic Macron, President of the Republic of France, and the Government and the amicable people of France.
“We are here today to also celebrate the Republican Values-values embodied in Liberian style of governance which are democratic, free and transparent and the rights to the common man,” she said.
