Inquirer Newspaper has gathered that one person has been confirmed dead and three others injured after a kehkeh rider interrupted President Joseph Boakai’s convoy along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway in Paynesville.
Information Minister, Jerolinmek Piah confirming the accident clarified that all four were occupants on the Kehkeh that collided with fourth van in the President’s convoy, describing the situation as “regrettable.”
Prior to Minister Piah assertion, eye witnesses told this paper that the accident occurred during the early morning hour of Wednesday, July 24, 2024 while the President was en route to dedicate the newly reconstructed dormitory of the “Love a Child Orphanage Home” implemented by First Lady, Kartumu Y. Boakai in VOA Community, Margibi County.
The eye witnesses said while the President’s motorcades were in motion from Monrovia towards Margibi, a Kehkeh Rider with passengers onboard without courtesy to the Presidential convoy, attempted making a quick u-turn after three of the motorcades had already passed; not considering that the convoy were still rolling.
Information gathered also had that some bystanders along the Rehab junction were also injured as a result of the accident, as the impact of the crash was so severe resulting into the coming of an ambulance that later rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospitals for treatment.
However, the unharmed President Boakai continued to the event while his protocol and EPS took care of the situation but however expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the crash.
Also, the identity of the deceased and injured individuals are yet to be released while the injured individuals are said to be receiving serious medical treatment with some of them now in stable condition at the ELWA Hospital.
Meanwhile, Minister Piah disclosed that the Executive Mansion will issue an official statement on the situation and added, “Again, those involved have been taken to the hospital. We are on our way to the hospital with the President and the Emansion will do the needful.”
