The Board of Registrars and Management of the National Identification Registry (NIR), under the auspices of the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, will on Thursday, May 2, officially launch the Roadmap for the comprehensive Mass Enrolment of Citizens and Foreign Residents into the National Biometric Identification System (NBIS).

Addressing the media yesterday, the director of communications at NIR, Daniel Sloh Sargbe, stated that the roadmap event that will be officially launched by President Joseph Boakai in Monrovia, hopes to enhance NBIS, which feeds all data bases, as well as the sustainability of safe environment and proper access to services and welfare to citizens.

According to him, the President’s aim is maintaining his pronouncements made that his government will strengthen the NIR to build the needed capacity to be able to capture the comprehensive biometric data needed to feed all government agencies, including the National Elections Commission, and in line with article 3.2 (f) of the NIR act.

He continued that the NIR act states that one of the key functions on the NIR shall be to advise and assist the government of Liberia and its agencies in improving and strengthening the collection, storage, evaluation, and security of information and documents collected to register births, issue passports, and other identification documents.

The NIR Director of Communications is at the same time encouraging the public and all relevant government institutions to form part of the important program.

The National Identification Registry is an autonomous agency within the Executive Branch of the Government.

It was created by an Act of the Legislature in 2011 because the frames were, among other things, mindful that double dripping, illegal migration, and other frauds resulting from impersonation and identity, continue to undermine the efforts of government to strengthen public and private institutions, provide essential services, and promote rule of law and progress.
