By Solomon T. Gaye Sr.
Police in Ganta has arrested and charged Nimba County Superintendent Nelson Korquoi and a man identified as Eric Wuozenneh with Criminal Aggravated Assault, Criminal Mischief and Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder.
According to the police charge sheet, Superintendent Korquoi and his co-conspirator allegedly kidnapped the complainant, Alvin Senneh, at about 7:00 PM and drove him to an unknown destination before asking him to jump off the vehicle.
The police said that after jumping out of the vehicle, both men pursued the complainant insinuating that he was a criminal thereby attracting community dwellers’ attention to the defendant who flogged him thereby breaking one of his arms.
Police informed media practitioners that the case was investigated and that both men were charged appropriately and forwarded to court.
Speaking at the Police station in Ganta, Alvin Senneh accused Superintendent Korquoi and Wuozenneh of attempting to killed him while riding with them from Ganta to the superintendent’s residence along the LOMC Community in Ganta.
Mr. Senneh complained that the superintendent had invited him for a conference to discuss issue pertaining to Electoral District 8 and while in the vehicle with Superintendent Korquoi and Eric Wuozenneh, the superintendent diverted the vehicle to Saclepea highway with heavy speed at about 7:00 in the night, corroborating what was read on the police charge sheet.
“I managed to escape from the superintendent’s government vehicle and was later caught by community members who flogged me and broke my hand,” Mr. Wuozenneh said.
Wuozenneh is one of the youths from Electoral District 8 who complained the superintendent to the Minister of Internal Affairs regarding the mysterious disappearance of huge consignment of scraps from the district thus linking the superintendent to the alleged sale of the scraps without the knowledge of local authorities assigned in the district.
Since the beginning of March 2023, tension has been brewing among the youth, traditional chief, elders and the superintendent over the clandestine sale of scraps from Electoral District 8 without knowledge of the authorities in the district.
When this paper contacted Superintendent Korquoi via mobile phone and he denied the allegations levied against him by Mr. Wuozenneh and also denied being charged by Police to face prosecution.
However, the clerk of court at the Gompa Magisterial Court confirmed that Superintendent Korquoi and Wuozenneh are facing criminal charges before the court adding, “Superintendent Korquoi has appeared before this court twice, but case still pending before this court.”
Superintendent Korquoi is represented by Cllr. Nyan Ben.
