By Solomon T Gaye
Report reaching this paper’s correspondent desk in the county says, several persons are being killed by sassy wood in the town of Gblor Dialah in Nimba County.
James Barseh explained that Gorloe Kruh and several others died after drinking sassy wood water (a local herbal drink) on July 23, 2024, in Gblor Dialah Town.
According to Barseh, the victims were accused by family members of being involved in witchcraft activities in the town.
“The herbalist administered the sassy wood water to her and she drank it; after thirty minutes, she started toileting on herself vomiting with blood before she could pass out,” Barseh lamented.
Speaking on the same issue to radio Kergheamahn, the Administrative District Commissioner confirmed the incident and the death of a woman by sassy wood in the district.
According to the MIA Commissioner, tension is brewing in Dialah Town as youth set up road blocks preventing the arrest of the herbalist or being turned over to the authority.
“This is the second incident. Five persons were killed by sassy wood in April 2024 and the information was conceived by the residents of the town,” commissioner disclosed.
“About ten persons signed a document to the clan chief authorizing the herbalist to administer the sassy wood and the victims have been buried,” the commissioner revealed.
When this paper contacted the National Council of Chief office in Sanniquellie via mobile phone, the chairperson, Robert Sehneah, said, a team has been dispatched to Gblor Dialah Town to probe into the situation.
“The report is true, we have sent a team to bring the herbalist to Sanniquellie,” Chairman Sehneah disclosed.
