As the 2020 senatorial election draws closer, the outgoing superintendent of Nimba County, Dorr Cooper, says he is a potential and formidable candidate who is poised to replace Prince Y. Johnson in the county.
“My decision today is based on many calls in various electoral districts by members of the Traditional Chief Council, women organizations and youth groups who have mandated me to contest in the 2020 senatorial election for developments to be carried out in the county because of my roles while serving as mayor of Ganta City, Assistance Superintendent for Development and Superintendent respectively,” Dorr Cooper declared.
Before his public declaration, there were rumors already that Dorr Cooper’s tours while serving as superintendent were intended to obtain favors through votes in the upcoming election from residents in Nimba County.
In 2018, 11 of the elected lawmakers in the county pointed accusing fingers at the former superintendent for what they termed as his pre-campaigning strategy being carried out in the various electoral districts under the pretense of inspecting government’s projects.
During these tours in the districts, Dorr met with members of women organizations, the Traditional Chief Council and donating building materials as well as dished out huge cash as development funds which many considered were geared towards political manipulations.
In 2019, Dorr Cooper denied the lawmakers allegations and said that was a concern from his detractors to tarnish his good reputation with the lawmakers and the government whereas he was performing his normal work as county superintendent.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
