NICOL Restores Good Standing with Central Bank …Announces Nationwide Expansion

By Grace Q. Bryant

The National Insurance Company of Liberia (NICOL) has officially regained compliance with the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), a significant milestone in its operations.

This announcement was made by NICOL’s Director General, Nartus Jappah, during the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism’s (MICAT) regular press briefing on Thursday, December 12.

According to Director Jappah, NICOL is actively collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Central Bank, to maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements.

This development underscores the company’s renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and reliable service delivery.

As part of its operational strategy, NICOL is working closely with the Liberia National Police to provide insurance for their operational vehicles.

The company is also partnering with the Ministry of Transport to develop a comprehensive motorcycle insurance policy, which is expected to benefit thousands of motorcyclists across Liberia.

To further improve service delivery, NICOL has streamlined its processes for handling vehicular accident claims.

Director Jappah assured the public that investigations involving insured vehicles will now be completed within seven to ten days.

This move highlights the company’s focus on efficiency and customers’ satisfaction.

“NICOL is not just here to serve government institutions but to provide insurance services to all Liberians, non-citizens, and businesses,” Jappah said.

He added, ”We want every Liberian to know that the National Insurance Company of Liberia is here to serve you, whether you are an individual or part of an institution.”

To enhance accessibility, NICOL is planning to establish sub-stations in strategic locations, including Bo-Water Side on the Liberia-Sierra Leone border, Duala in Montserrado County, and Nimba County.

These expansions, expected to be completed by 2025, aim to bring NICOL’s services closer to customers in underserved areas.

In addition, the company has relocated its central office to a more accessible location in Congo Town, at the NP Gas Station, to improve customer engagement and service delivery.

NICOL, established in 1984 under PRC Decree 81, was initially mandated to manage insurance for all government entities, public corporations, and businesses in which the Liberian government holds a majority stake.

Over the years, the company has evolved to offer services to a wider audience, reflecting its mission to support both public and private sectors.

This renewed focus on compliance, inclusivity, and expansion signifies a turning point for NICOL, as it seeks to reestablish itself as a trusted and reliable provider of insurance services in Liberia.

With plans to extend its reach and improve operational efficiency, NICOL is positioning itself to meet the growing needs of customers nationwide.

These initiatives not only reflect NICOL’s commitment to innovation and customer service but also align with its vision of making insurance services accessible and beneficial to every Liberian.
