New LEC Managing Director Visits Mines, Energy

The newly appointed Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Mohammed Sheriff paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye.
The visit marked a significant step toward fostering collaboration between the LEC and the Ministry, aimed at addressing key challenges in electricity availability, sustainability, and affordability in Liberia.
During the meeting, MD Sheriff and Minister Paye exchanged friendly discussions with a shared vision of enhancing Liberia’s electricity sector.
Minister Paye assured the new LEC head of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Corporation in its mission to revamp and expand power supply across the country.
He emphasized that the Ministry, as the sector lead, will continue to provide strong leadership and policy guidance to ensure the effective implementation of the government’s energy programs and projects.
MD Sheriff also met with the Deputy Minister for Energy, Charles Umehai, who heads the Department of Energy.
Deputy Minister Umehai reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to work collaboratively with the LEC in addressing the energy sector’s pressing needs.
He noted that the government prioritizes electricity as a key driver of economic growth and national development.
Mohammed Sheriff was recently appointed as Managing Director of the LEC by President Boakai, following an independent recruitment process led by Minister Paye as Chairman.
Sheriff brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously led the sub-regional electricity body CLSG, which facilitates power connectivity among Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
Expressing optimism about his new role, MD Sheriff appeared eager to commence transformative reforms at the LEC.
His leadership is expected to drive efficiency and innovation within the Corporation, ensuring a more reliable and accessible electricity supply for Liberians.
The visit underscored the importance of strong cooperation between key energy stakeholders in Liberia and sets the stage for constructive engagements that will contribute to the nation’s long-term energy security and economic advancement.
