New Alliance Launched To Promote Sustainable Development

An alliance of dedicated organizations and individuals has officially launched a campaign to foster sustainable development and environmental stewardship across Liberia.
The National Alliance of Climate and Environmental NGOs of Liberia (NACEL) aims to raise awareness about pressing ecological challenges and mobilize communities to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The launch event took place yesterday, in Monrovia, attracting representatives from the U.S. Embassy, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Monrovia City Government, and various civil society organizations.
The chairman of NACEL and Executive Director of the Climate and Environmental Protection Initiative of Liberia (CEPIL), Tundy R. Tarn, emphasized the urgency of environmental action in light of Liberia’s ongoing struggles with deforestation, pollution, and climate change.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to address the pressing environmental challenges facing our nation”, said Tarn.
He highlighted NACEL’s commitment to uniting diverse sectors to tackle climate change and promote sustainable practices.
The coalition aims to enhance advocacy, share resources, and engage communities in a movement prioritizing environmental health as a cornerstone of national development.
The initiative comes at a critical time as many Liberians lack access to safe drinking water, sanitation services, and climate education.
NACEL aligns with the ARREST agenda, particularly focusing on health, water, sanitation, the environment, and climate change.
During the event, representatives from the U.S. Embassy, including Public Engagement Specialist, Moses Zangar, reiterated their commitment to supporting environmental initiatives in Liberia.
“Joint efforts are essential for fostering a sustainable future,” he stated, expressing readiness to assist NACEL in its mission.
The Executive Director of the EPA, Emmanuel Yarkpawolo acknowledged the timely launch of NACEL and its potential to mobilize efforts to safeguard Liberia’s natural resources.
“Collaboration among stakeholders is key to addressing these urgent environmental issues”, he remarked.
The alliance encourages all citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings, fostering a movement that prioritizes environmental stewardship and resilience.
As Liberia continues to confront significant ecological challenges, NACEL’s efforts represent a vital step towards promoting sustainable development and protecting the country’s rich natural heritage for future generations.
The initiative hopes to inspire a collective commitment to preserving Liberia’s ecosystems, ensuring that environmental health becomes integral to national growth and development.
