The Netball Federation of Liberia Administrative Director Evelyne Samboe has decried the abandonment of the sector calling on the public to pay attention on the unpopular game.
Madam Samboe disclosed that the lack of support to the sector by the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports is a major challenging factor for the growth of the game in the country.
Speaking on a local sports platform in Monrovia, Madam Samboe said since they were trained by experts from Europe as an Empire Netball, they are allegedly yet to be recognized especially in terms of support and acceptance by the government of Liberia even though they are among the active sports in Liberia under the Bureau of Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
She however indicated that with their passion for the game, the officials are doing their best to ensure that the sport gets its needed support and recognition like other sporting disciplines in the country.
In a drive to help popularize the game as a new sport in Liberia, Madam Samboe emphasized that there is a need for netball introduction into the National County Sports Meet.
According to her, if that is done by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, more people will express interest and subsequently, the sport can get support and general recognition by the people of Liberia.
The Netball Federation’s official used the occasion to call on the government of Liberia and FIFA to make Netball like other Sports in Liberia.
Meanwhile, she disclosed a planned activity for the sport scheduled for May 10, 2023 at the Jimmy Jolokon High School in Gardnersville and encourage the public and sector officials to grace the ceremony.
