NEC Holds Legal Awareness Forum Today In Bassa

The second in a series of Legal Awareness Forums organized by the Legal Section of the National Elections Commission (NEC) takes place on tomorrow Friday, October 30 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
According to the Legal Section of the NEC, of the 150 practitioners, the expected participants drawn from eight counties will consist of the Ministry of Justice, judges, attorneys, district commissioners, traditional leaders, civil society groups, women and youth groups and the Disabled Community at the two-day awareness Forum.
The NEC Legal Section said this is the second Legal Awareness Forum to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of the legal electoral processes for the 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, Referendum, and the two Representatives By-Elections slated for October 8.
The statement from the NEC Legal section explained the overriding objectives of the legal discussion in Buchanan which includes increasing legal practitioners and electorates understanding on the basis for conducting elections, sensitizing citizens about perusing non-violent elections and enhancing citizen’s participation in the democratic process.
The Legal Section concluded that the discussion expected to also ensure equitable and increased participation in all aspects of the elections, building confidence in the electoral management body’s ability to conduct free, fair and transparent SSE, Referendum and by-elections as well to provide information of the legal process in election to reduce the number of complaints especially during post elections period.
The first Legal Section which hosted 150 participates from South Eastern Liberia including legal practitioners, district commissioners, attorneys, Ministry of Justice Senior officials was a two-day awareness Forum held in Gbarnga City, Bong County under the theme, “Increasing stakeholders’ understanding of the Legal Electoral processes for the 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, Referendum, and the two Representatives By-Elections slated for 8 October 2020.”
