The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and Save the Children International (SCI) have launched a humanitarian relief initiative targeting 320 households in Bong and Rivercess Counties.
The intervention will benefit approximately 1,600 individuals, including 960 children, whose lives have been severely disrupted by recent floods.
The relief effort focuses on 220 households in Bong County (around 1,100 individuals, including 660 children) and 100 households in Rivercess County (around 500 individuals, including 300 children).
It includes the distribution of essential supplies to address critical needs in education, hygiene, and nutrition.
Each child will receive a school kit containing essential learning materials, such as a school bag, notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, a ruler, a sharpener, a geometry set , and a box of oil pastels.
These kits are designed to help children return to school and resume their education after losing their supplies to the floods.
Aimed at reducing health risks, particularly among women and girls, the hygiene kits include sanitary pads, multi-purpose soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, laundry soap, hand sanitizer, and water guard for water purification.
Each household is receiving a food basket comprising 25kg of rice and 5 liters of vegetable oil to address immediate nutritional needs.
The initiative, guided by a Memorandum of Understanding between NDMA and SCI, was officially launched in Bong County by Superintendent Hawa Norris.
Save the Children’s Humanitarian Lead, Zinnah Cargeor, presented the relief items, while NDMA’s Director for Loss, Damage, and Recovery, Madam Asatu Z. Konneh, received them on behalf of the affected families.
Distributions commenced yesterday and are expected to conclude by today, ensuring that families receive the support they urgently need.
This partnership highlights a shared commitment to responding to disasters and ensuring that vulnerable populations, particularly children, receive the assistance necessary to recover and rebuild their lives.
