The Project Director of Liberia’s National Disaster Management Agency, Cheick Ousmane Toure, is participating in the African Union’s Annual Humanitarian Symposium in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event, themed “Safeguarding the Future: Addressing the Plight of Children and Adolescents Affected by Humanitarian Crisis,” convenes key stakeholders from Africa, Europe, and beyond to develop strategies for protecting vulnerable children and adolescents impacted by humanitarian crises.
Participants include representatives from the African Union, humanitarian agencies, policymakers, development partners, civil society organizations, academics, and youth and women’s groups.
Together, they aim to identify specific risks faced by children and adolescents and propose innovative solutions to address these challenges.
On Tuesday, November 19, Director Toure delivered a statement on behalf of Liberia. His address spotlights the unique challenges being faced by Liberian children and adolescents amid humanitarian crises while showcasing the strides Liberia has made in tackling these issues.
Toure’s speech emphasized Liberia’s commitment to collaborative problem-solving and called for greater international recognition of the country’s contributions.
“This Symposium is an invaluable platform to advocate for children and adolescents who bear the brunt of humanitarian crises. Liberia is committed to championing their rights, advancing their future, and collaborating with global counterparts to achieve sustainable solutions,” said Director Toure.
The Symposium underscores the African Union’s commitment to addressing the continent’s pressing humanitarian challenges while amplifying the voices of vulnerable populations.
