The Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Henry O. Williams wants the Government to improve the Liberia Athletics Federation.
According to him, the federation has been abandoned for so many years without the support of anyone which is very bad for the country.
Serving as the guest speaker yesterday, at the interschool championships organized by the Liberia Athletics Federation, held at the Olympic Village Field in Soul Clinic Community, he mentioned that athletics is very important because it helps the youths and children to be active at schools.
Mr. Williams added that with the involvement of track and field in the country, children will be able to perform lots of activities that will enhance body-building fitness through exercising the body in order to be physically fit.
He disclosed that the federation has been abandoned for years and looking at the field they practice on and their present condition shows that they need serious attention.
“I’m encouraging all the participants to be serious with their sport and look beyond the venue, and not be discouraged, whether they have a good field or not,” he advised.
The NDMA boss added that other federations need to collaborate as a team and work with the track and field in order to help the youths obtain their goals.
He maintained that during his hay days, he was part of the athletic federation which he said should have been the best by now.
Mr. Williams further appealed to the LNDC and the Minister for Youth and Sports Ministry, Zoegar Wilson to help in the development of the Liberia Athletic Federation.
Meanwhile, he has promised to award any school that will win the interschool championship, and to also revive the Antheus Athletics Club that has been abandoned for years.
Director Williams then applauded President Weah for establishing the Invincible Sports Park in order to facilitate sporting activities.
