Naymote Partners for Democratic Development is set to host the second Summit for Democracy and Political Accountability from March 5-6, 2025.
The event will be held at the Bella Casa Hotel in Monrovia under the theme, “Exploring Pathways for Sustainable Democracy and Inclusive Development in Liberia.”
This summit aims to foster critical dialogue on sustaining Liberia’s democracy, enhancing democratic dividends, and strengthening public sector governance, the rule of law, political equality, and public trust in political systems.
It will provide a platform for stakeholders to collaboratively address challenges and develop actionable recommendations to advance Liberia’s democratic transition.
The summit is expected to bring together 75 participants from ten of Liberia’s fifteen counties, including Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Bomi, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, and Grand Cape Mount.
Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, will deliver the keynote address. Additionally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet, along with the Ambassadors of the European Union and Sweden to Liberia and Sierra Leone, including other distinguished delegates, will deliver special statements.
The Executive Director of Naymote, Eddie D. Jarwolo, highlighted that the summit will present a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, listen, learn, and take decisive actions toward advancing Liberia’s democratic development.
He expressed gratitude to Sweden for supporting the summit through the Democracy Advancement Program (DAP) and acknowledged the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its valuable partnership.
Meanwhile, the event will feature engaging sessions, panel discussions, plenary sessions, and group working sessions focused on developing a comprehensive action plan for democratic advancement.
Panelists will include Ministers of Finance and Development Planning, Justice, Gender, and Social Protection, along with representatives from UN Women, the General Auditing Commission (GAC), Liberia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), and various civil society organizations.
This summit represents a significant step toward fostering a more inclusive and accountable democracy in Liberia.
