Naymote Releases 2024 Report On Institutional Leadership Empowerment

The Naymote Partners for Democratic Development, has unveiled its 2024 Annual Report, reflecting the institution unwavering commitment to empowering leaders and driving sustainable change in Liberia.
The report detailed the engagement of lawmakers in fostering accountability, the success stories from the Legislative Internship Program, and Naymote’s role in advancing political accountability, encapsulated under the theme “Promises Made, Promises Kept 2024.”
The report also highlights the significant influence of essential initiatives, such as the Young Political Leadership School Africa, the Democracy Impact Fellowship Program, the Lead Mentorship Program, the Legislative Internship Program, and the Liberia Emerging Political Leaders Program.
These programs empower emerging leaders by providing them with crucial skills and knowledge for effective political leadership and the defense of democratic values.
From August 12-16, 2024, Naymote completed the 11th cohort of the Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLS Africa) under the theme “Empower the Future: African Youth Leaders for Sustainable Development, Peace, and Security,” and brought together 100 emerging leaders from across Africa.
Vice President Jeremiah Koung, delivered the keynote address and called on African youth to take charge of leadership and actively participate in shaping
the future of the continent.
He urged the youth to take ownership of their future, stating, “If the government can’t, you must. You are the architects of your future. Give your all to correct the odds, and be competitive among your peers in other countries and on the global stage.”
The Ambassador of the United States to Liberia, Mark Toner, delivered a motivational statement that expressed confidence in Africa’s potential and praised the spirit of its people.
“There are good, smart, and hardworking people here and across the continent, responsible citizens who have their country’s best interests at heart and are willing to work hard in whatever capacity to achieve them,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Naymote Executive Director Eddie D. Jarwolo stated that, this year has once again shown the incredible power of collaboration, determination, and shared purpose, of a collective effort that includes the Board of Directors, resilient team members, partners, volunteers, alumni, and supporters.
According to him, this year, they released a report tracking the promises made by President Joseph Boakai , a report that has gained recognition from citizens, national stakeholders, and international partners as a reference for discourses that border on political accountability in Liberia.
He added that, at Naymote, they believe that a vibrant civil society is essential for a thriving democracy. Over the years, the institution has been instrumental in sustaining peace and strengthening democratic gains in the country.
This year, Naymote made significant strides, including the signing an MOU with the University of Liberia to develop a curriculum for a six-month executive political leadership diploma course-an exciting new chapter in our work.
“Naymote also hosted Liberia’s first national summit on democracy and political accountability, among other impactful initiatives. Adding that, he is deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed, and he remains inspired by the incredible impact they are making together,” he mentioned.
He explained that the Liberia Emerging Political Leaders Training (LEPLT) fosters leadership among individuals from marginalized communities and develops leaders from the grassroots. The Democracy Impact Fellowship Program is grooming a new generation of democratic defenders and activists.
He stated that, the President Meter Project (PMP) provides a channel for public accountability, helping citizens learn about the President’s performance and demand the fulfillment of campaign and post-campaign promises.
He concluded that, he is thrilled to share this message as they conclude another remarkable year in 2024. He added that, it has been an honor to lead a team of passionate, innovative minds who are dedicated to advancing accountability, democratic governance, and strong civic engagement across Liberia and Africa a commitment we have upheld for nearly two decades.
Together, Naymote have cultivated a community of compassionate and driven leaders who are shaping a more inclusive and democratic society. Through programs like the Young Political Leadership School
Africa, and have trained 1,130 emerging politicians, activists, social society leaders from across Africa, equipping them with the tools to lead change and influence democratic decision-making in their communities.
