MOPT Introduces Safety Measures

The Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications introduced Mask and gloves wearing for all postal workers in keeping with information from the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU).
On Monday February 24, 2020, The Minister of Posts & Telecommunications, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah Sr. instructed all employees handing inbound mail to wear gloves and mask as a means of protecting themselves from parcels that are coming in from other parts of the world against the Coronavirus.
During the exercise, the Assistant Minister for Planning, Research and Statistics, Cyrus Kamara who is mainly responsible for operations at the Ministry urged employees to wear their hand gloves and face mask. “This exercise is intended to for everyone to carry on precautionary measures because we are member state of PAPU”, he added.
The Assistant Minister further stated that, Liberia will work in line to adhered to the mandate of PAPU and abide by the international protocols to run postal operations in Liberia.
He told employees that the Pan Africa Postal Union is a specialized institution of the African Union. Its main objective is to coordinate all activities aimed at developing postal services on the African continent.
“PAPU was established by the constitutive Plenipotentiary conference of African ministers in charge of postal services held in 1980 in Arushia, Tanzania” he stated.
The Operation Minister further indicated that, “The vision of this specialized institution is to insure the implementation of single postal territory that provides innovative, integrated and inclusive policy guidelines for development of postal sector in Africa” among other things.
