The Ministry of Labour says its attention has been drawn to the failure of the Management of Global Logistics Services to pay the fined of US$500.00 (Five Hundred United States Dollars) for violating Section 9.5 (ii) of the Decent Work Act 2015.The Ministry said this act on the part of the Management of Global Logistics Services to pay into Government Revenue at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and show proof of official receipt to the Ministry of Labour on or before December 6, 2019 is in total disregard for the law of the Republic of Liberia.
According to the Ministry press release its action follows series of conferences held with the Management of Global Logistics Services over the redundancy action executed against some of its employees.
On August 1, 2019 the Management executed a redundancy action, against Mr. Ernest Ujay Preston and Mr. Titoe D. Moses without seeking approval from the Ministry of Labour in contravention of Section 14.5 f (i) of the Decent Work Act of 2015.
In a communication signed by the Assistant Minister of Labour, Atty. Welma B. Sampson dated November 22, 2019 the Ministry ordered the Management of Global Logi stics Services to pay all just benefits due the two affected employees which include four (4) months’ severance on or before Friday, December 6, 2019 and obtain official release of claims from the Ministry.
The Ministry also informed the management in the communication that failure to address the fined and to settle the (4) months’ severance to the two affected employees on or before December 6, 2019, will lead to additional disciplinary measures against the institution as befitting repeat violator.
Meanwhile, the Ministry assured the public of its continuous commitment to ensuring that the rights of workers and employers are protected at all times in keeping with the Decent Work Act of Liberia.
