The Ministry of Labour (MOL) has strongly refuted allegations circulating on social media that Labour Minister Cooper Kruah is actively campaigning in Nimba County during the ongoing by-election.
The Ministry insists that the claims are entirely baseless and intended to mislead the public.
In a press release issued in Monrovia, the Ministry clarified that Minister Kruah is currently out of the country on official duties in Europe.
His mission, according to the Ministry, involves high-level engagements aimed at securing foreign employment and labor opportunities for Liberians.
“These claims are false, misleading, and designed to tarnish the reputation of Minister Kruah,” said Deputy Communications Director Frederick Baye. “The photo being circulated is not only outdated, but was taken long before Minister Kruah assumed his current role in government.”
Baye stressed that the fabricated report appears to be an intentional attempt to portray the Minister as violating Liberia’s Code of Conduct, which restricts government officials from engaging in political activities while in public service.
He reassured the public that Minister Kruah remains in full compliance with all statutory requirements and ethical standards.
“Minister Kruah is committed to serving the Liberian people with integrity and has never taken actions that would compromise his office or the trust placed in him,” Baye added.
In addition to addressing the social media rumors, the Ministry also responded to a recent article published by The News Newspaper, which alleged misconduct involving Minister Kruah and his daughter, Cornelia Kruah.
The Ministry described the story as a “personal attack” lacking credible evidence and urged the media to refrain from sensational reporting.
“This is not just an attack on the Minister and his family, but an affront to responsible journalism,” the Ministry stated. “We call on all media institutions to act responsibly and ensure that all reports are factual, balanced, and verified.”
The Ministry underscored its ongoing commitment to transparency, good governance, and the rule of law.
The release further encourages the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and to seek information from official sources.
As political tensions rise amid the by-election in Nimba County, the Ministry warns against attempts to exploit the political climate for personal or partisan gain, particularly through the spread of disinformation.
“The Ministry of Labour stands firm in its mission to protect the rights and welfare of Liberian workers and will not be distracted by baseless accusations,” the statement concluded.
