The Movement with Integrity for National Development (MIND) has publicly commended the management of Global Tracking and Maritime Solution (GTMS) for their exemplary services in Liberia over the years.
The organization, which advocates for transparency and accountability in governance, also emphasized the importance of GTMS’s contributions to the maritime sector, calling on President Joseph Boakai to act with urgency on the second amendment of the GTMS-Liberia agreement.
However, MIND’s commendation comes at a critical time as the government is already reviewing to amend the existing agreement with GTMS, which aims to enhance the partnership between the government and GTMS, ensuring that the services provided are aligned with the government’s developmental agenda.
In a release issued yesterday, April 1, 2025, MIND’s leadership said, “Given the improved and secure container tracking services of the GTMS over the last five years, we extend congratulations to the management of the entity for its proficiency.”
“Their meticulous and public-driven services relative to the tracking and safe management of related information, has led to the improvement in the shipment of goods to the country and delivery to intended destinations, and we are proud of them,” the release noted.
According to MIND’s release, until the activities of GTMS were authorized in Liberia, the process of shipping and container management was a very difficult process that was associated with risk.
They noted that since the operations of GTMS began, there has been a remarkable increase in the shipment of containerized goods to Liberia and an equal increase in the assessed fees by the government.
MIND, in its release, maintained, “This, in essence, speaks volumes of the raised public trust and respect for the dutifulness of GTMS in its handling of customers chattel and all other related information.”
“And we are certain that, unlike in the past when, due to poor handling of the shipping manifest and related information which led to losses and increase in tracking cost as well as shippers preference for using alternative ports of entry from neighbouring countries.
The presence of GTMS in Liberia under the responsible General Management of Madam Aminata Bangura has significantly reduced these threats to shipping activities in Liberia, thus ensuring maximum security for public shipping activities and related information,” MIND said.
MIND further explained, “While we give deep concern to the reduced-cost processes of shipping activities under the current GTMS management, its prospects for increasing revenue for the government when domestic resources are largely responsible for government budgetary activities is of vital importance for both parties.”
The group said, “It also sets the solid basis for the continuity of the operations of the shipping tracking house in Liberia. As such, we call on President Boakai to note seriously the importance of the operations of the GTMS to safe shipping in Liberia and grant the extension it seeks.
“Again, it is our strongest position that the economic growth our country seeks will remain fleeting in the absence of a responsible container tracking service as GTMS, now that they have stood the test of difficult times and generated the courage to professionally keep Liberia as a number on a safe destination for containerized goods shipping and related services,” MIND added.
