The Director of the Monrovia City Police (MCP), Colonel G. Thomas Garwo has indicated that the MCP in partnership with local authorities will undertake community initiative geared toward youths’ empowerment. Speaking at a well-attended gathering comprising of residents of the area especially the Water Side Community over the weekend, he said that they will provide training for the youths including others for them to be able to perform certain tasks.
“The people expressed their desire of seeing their fast developing community safe and green so they asked me for my support as a resident,” he asserted.
He was categorically clear that the program is intended for everyone to benefit despite their political affiliation and informed the community dwellers who were excited as the result of the new initiative that the program is an extension of programs that are being carried out by the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) under the leadership of Major Jefferson Tamba Koijee.
Mr. Garwo stated that since the youths are the bedrock of the society, they need to be engaged with productive activities that will dissuade them from participating in unlawful activities saying that they will be trained to work with the garbage collection team as well as City Police Officers for them to render services for pay.
The MCP Director vowed to curtail criminal activities in the area as people are being victimized regularly by thieves mainly at the Elizabeth Tubman Memorial Institute (ETMI) Campus vicinity and other areas, a situation which is posing serious fear among them and that strict adherence to the city ordinance will be carried out where garbage collection from door-to-door and Saturdays’ clean-up Campaign will be encouraged.
Speaking further, he told the gathering that the City Police Depots will be erected at various localities in the township for quick response so as to minimize the rampant criminal activities in the communities because the area is a crossing point to other settlements.
Pastor George K.B. Gibson, Councilman of the township lauded Major Koijee for his stewardship at the MCC which is undoubtedly bringing human and infrastructural development to upper Caldwell and its environs which they appreciate with the assurance that they will support every endeavor but reminded the MCP’s Head to always work relentlessly with the local authorities.
The Commissioner of the Township of Caldwell, E. Francis Woods said that he was gratified to have the MCP Director in their midst as a resident describing him as a patriot who is concerned about bringing development to their area.
According to him, Major Koijee recently had a meeting with the 17 Commissioners of Montserrado County where he informed them about a huge development package pending and promised that he will share with the surrounding townships and cities to Monrovia.
“A MoU will be signed between the MCC and other township Commissioners, which will detail our support from the City Government; so let us be cooperative because we stand to benefit a lot,” he urged the people.
Commissioner Woods then commended the MCC Boss for soliciting the support for not only the City of Monrovia and stressed that his office is going to work with the MCC and the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) for the scrupulous enforcement of the city ordinance relative to streets and Sunday-selling and also adhere to the zoning law.
