The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), through Mayor John Siafa, has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for 2025 aimed at transforming the capital into a more livable and sustainable city.
Emphasizing the need for comprehensive urban development, Siafa said, “We are set to enhance our urban infrastructure, expand effective sanitation services, bolster public health, ensure robust public safety, and foster urban planning and innovation.”
In his State of the City address climaxing the Monrovia Week, Sunday, February 16, 2025, the Mayor asserted, “Despite our challenges in 2024 and the gains we have made sense taking over, our goals in 2025 are ambitious yet attainable.”
According to the Mayor, these targets are underpinned by a suite of strategic recommendations aimed at refining policy frameworks, nurturing public-private partnerships, and fostering deeper international cooperation.
The mayor’s plan includes significant investments in modern infrastructure, economic empowerment through diversification, community-centric governance, revolutionizing waste management, and smart city initiatives, among others.
On modern infrastructure, the mayor narrated, “We intend to submit to the Monrovia City Council a plan to eventually transform the Monrovia City Hall envisioned as a state-of-the-art hub to meet the administrative demands of our expanding city.”
“On the economic empowerment through diversification, we are aggressively working to diversify our revenue streams to ensure financial independence and resilience, enabling us to fund key projects that will catalyze economic growth and prosperity.
While our community-centric governance one-Stop-Shop Service Center will exemplify our approach to governance that prioritizes accessibility, responsiveness, and inclusivity, ensuring that every resident can engage with and benefit from our services,” he noted.
Mayor Siafa further disclosed, “Our smart city initiatives will be by leveraging advanced technology, which we aim to streamline services, increase transparency, and position Monrovia as a pioneer in smart city solutions across the sub-region.”
“On the greener, more sustainable Monrovia, initiatives like the Johnson Street Park and upgrades to the Existing Chevron Park Bridge-to-Bridge Project are set to redefine our urban landscape, turning our city into a beacon of sustainability and a haven of green spaces that not only enhance our quality of life but also attract tourism and commerce.
While on revolutionizing waste management, we are highly committed to establishing Material Recovery, recycling and composting facilities as part of our approach to sustainable waste management, which is essential for a cleaner, healthier Monrovia,” he maintained.
The mayor intoned, “We assure you that given the level of engagement and where we are with current partners, this realization is much closer and that we have completed with them basic feasibility and technical studies to support an informed action.”
“The journey to transform Monrovia is a collective endeavor that requires the active engagement of every citizen, business, and community leader. Together, we can surmount the challenges before us, seize the opportunities that lie ahead, and forge a city that stands as a testament to our shared aspirations and resilience.
With unwavering determination and unified effort, let us advance toward a future where Monrovia is not just thriving but is also a model of urban excellence on the global stage,” Mayor Siafa added.
