The Mayor of Pleebo City, Larry G. Geekor, has praised the ongoing road rehabilitation efforts spearheaded by Pleebo Sodoken District Representative Anthony F. Williams.
The initiative, which is rated at 80% complete was launched on January 30, 2025, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works, aims to rehabilitate 34 kilometers of alley roads across Pleebo City, addressing a long-standing issue of poor road accessibility.
Speaking at the Pleebo City Corporation office on February 19, 2025, Mayor Geekor highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting that the effort has now entered its 10th working day.
He expressed gratitude to Representative Williams for playing a key role in realizing a vision initially proposed by former Pleebo City Mayor Anthony R. Harmon during the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration.
Mayor Geekor reported that 18 streets have already been rehabilitated, with an additional 14 streets newly incorporated into the project.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about continued progress.
Among the roads that have undergone rehabilitation are: The route from former Speaker Chambers’ residence to St. Francis Sports Pitch, Mission Town to New Pleebo, United Methodist Church Hill through Bassa Community and Total Freedom Church, Grand Public School Junction to Zone 4 Community.
The road connecting former Senator Matthew Jaye’s school in Pleebo to Zone 4 near Edward Compound. The road from Mary Weah Church in Mission Pleebo, among others
The mayor emphasized that during his tenure as a zone chairman under the Sirleaf’s administration, residents contributed L$200 per household to support Pleebo’s road layout, a dream that remained unfulfilled until now.
Mayor Geekor pointed to official documents showing that former Mayor Anthony R. Harmon had handed over road construction plans to Wellington Kyne, outlining a vision for comprehensive road rehabilitation in Pleebo.
He credited Representative Williams for securing national government support, noting that such a large-scale project could not have been accomplished by the Pleebo City Corporation alone.
Expressing appreciation for community engagement, the mayor commended zonal leaders for their cooperation with the road rehabilitation process, which is being led by the Chair of all Chairs, Mr. Daniel Natt.
Mayor Geekor extended gratitude to President Joseph Boakai and the Ministry of Public Works for backing the initiative, acknowledging the government’s role in providing essential equipment and personnel to facilitate the project.
Additionally, he revealed that the Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation, Moi Ali, has planned to construct a water tower in Pleebo, a move aimed at ensuring residents have access to safe drinking water.
As road rehabilitation efforts progress, Mayor Geekor expressed confidence that the project will bring lasting benefits to Pleebo City, improving transportation, commerce, and overall living conditions for residents.
