By Bill W. Cooper
The bustling Duport Road junction was Saturday night, December 22, 2024, a scene of panic and sorrow, when a man believed to be in his 30th allegedly stabbed his girlfriend following a heated argument over the end of their long-term relationship.
The sad event has since sent fear and outrage amongst residents and visitors of the Duport Road belt, raising concerns about domestic violence and the need for greater efforts from government to address this menace.
According to an eyewitness, the perpetrator, only as Bill Jallah, Saturday night requested his late girlfriend known as Princess Zuo to have a conversation with her of which she agreed and they met somewhere around Duport Road junction.
According to Ellarwee P. Brown, during their meeting, perpetrator Bill’s little sister was also there with them, disclosing that when he tried talking to Princess, she told him that she wasn’t interested in the relationship again.
She explained, “Right then, he took out a kitchen knife he took along with him and stabbed Princess two times each in her stomach, her back and neck, and before people could leave their seats to rush there because it was an entertainment center, she fell on the ground.”
“Also, his little sister tried stopping him initially when he started getting mad at Princess and he even cut her on the arm before killing Princess who was pronounced dead upon arrival at the ELWA hospital,” she lamented tearfully.
Meanwhile, suspect Bill, according to information is still on the run and has not been arrested by the Liberia National Police (LNP) even though active investigation has already commenced by the LNP.
Domestic violence remains a significant issue in Liberia, where cultural stigmas often prevent victims from seeking help.
According to a 2021 report by the United Nations, nearly 50% of women in Liberia have experienced some form of violence in their lifetime.
Community dwellers and friends are now calling on the government to ensure that the late Princess receives justice, as they go about mourning her death, remembering her as a vibrant and caring individual who deserves a chance at happiness.
