Margibi Climaxes 1st Phase In 3rd Division

The first phase of the third division league in Margibi County, hosted by the county’s sub-association, has climaxed, following an entertaining between Wein Town United and the defending champions, the African Sports Academy.
The Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel staged the final game in the first phase of the competition over the weekend to see Wein Town United Football Club playing to a one-all draw against the county’s current champions.
According to fans of the two teams, the game was indeed a classical and well entertaining fixture last Sunday, February 26, 2024, which saw the two clubs sharing the spoils during the full 90 minutes.
Bill Momolu put Wein Town United Football Club ahead in the 26th minute to give the home team a 1-0 lead over Africa Sports Academy, but Chris Harmon got the equalizer for his side in 32 minutes to make it 1-1 before the halftime break.
Back from recess, the home team created several chances but failed to get on the score sheet due to good defending and goalkeeping from the back four of Africa Sports Academy and goalkeeper, James Morris.
And with just minutes to climax the game, Mohammed F. Kamara could have scored on his debut for his new employers, Africa Sports Academy, but the on-loan player from Prosper Football Club did not materialize such opportunity to give his team all three points, as both clubs played to a one-all-draw at full time.
Bill Momolu’s lone goal in the match marks his second goal for Wein Town United Football Club in the competition, while on the other hand, Chris Harmon’s equalizing goal in the match marks his first in the competition.
Momolu’s goal helped Wein Town United FC retain seventh place, while Harmon’s goal helped his club to maintain sixth place.
In other results over the weekend, SUSA FC and FC Quincy settled to a one-all-draw at the Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel on Saturday, February 24.
At the open-air Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, SLY FC defeated One Goal Football Academy 1-0.
Emmanuel Bonkor’s lone goal for SLY FC earned the home team a narrow win over One Goal Football Academy.
As the first phase ended on February 26, FC Quincy sit on top of the league table with 14 points from eight games, while JABU FC sit at the bottom of the league table.
Blamo Weah of Wein Town United FC tops the goals chart in the competition this far. Weah registered eight goals in the competition from eight appearances this season since the competition started.
Last season, the LFA-Margibi Sub-Association Third Division League was won by Africa Sports Academy.
Africa Sports Academy clinched the 2022/2023 Upper Subcommittee of the LFA- Margibi Sub-Association Third Division League, and also clinched the Margibi County Championship after defeating Wein Town United FC 1-0 at the Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel in 2023 to become the county’s champions.
The second phase of the League is expected to start in March at the two venues of the competition, namely, the Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel and the Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, the capital city of Margibi County.
