By Grace Q. Bryant
A 34-year-old Sam Brown has been sent to the Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Alice Kollie, in Bong Mines Bridge Community.
Defendant Brown was charged with murder in violation of Chapter 14, Subchapter A, Section 14.1 of the Revised Penal Code of the Republic of Liberia.
During Police/CSD in-depth investigation, it was revealed that Victim Alice Kollie and suspect Sam Brown were having an intimate relationship, lived together for some time, and even traveled together to the Republic of Guinea, where victim’s family are residing, to meet with them.
Investigation also revealed that on November 19, suspect Brown was seen at the victim’s house around 8:45pm and he spent the night there, and on the following morning, November 20, around 5:30am,he left the victim’s unresponsive body lying in her room, hung her padlock at the door when he left the room, and was seen leaving early that morning by one of the victim’s friends with some of his clothes in his hand.
The investigation revealed that their relationship started getting sour to the extent that they were no longer living together due to the constant assault from the suspect.
Investigation also uncovered that while Brown and the deceased were together on the night mentioned above, during the early morning hours, about 3:00am, a call came through the deceased’s phone and the suspect intercepted the call, at which he responded to the call and told the caller that Alice Kollie (victim) was in the bathroom and told the caller to call back later; when the caller called back for the second time, he answered the phone, but while responding to the call, the caller, in person of Michael Nyen, heard in the background of the phone, an argument going on between the victim and the suspect.
Investigation further revealed that the victim was discovered Iying unresponsive on her mattress in her bedroom, with bruises and abrasions around her neck.
The investigation revealed that she was later pronounced dead on the crime scene by a medical practitioner; by then, Brown had already fled from the crime scene in Monrovia and was arrested in Butaw, Sinoe County, a few days after the commission of the crime.
“That after the commission of the crime, suspect Sam Brown deleted all of his photos from the victim’s phone and began calling her number, so as to divert the attention of the investigators,” the investigation continued.
The investigation established that there were 52 missed calls found in the victim’s phone call log after it was discovered, from suspect Sam Brown’s number (0775197744), and the action of suspect Sam Brown was calculated and premeditated, out of mere jealousy.
