The Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation (LNWBF) says it has, with immediate effect, revoked the status of Mamie Free as Goodwill Ambassador for the Federation, and further terminate all affiliations.
In early September 2023, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of LNWBF appointed Mamie Free as Goodwill Ambassador of the LNWBF, with the mandate to represent the image of the federation on the international scene.
Free’s appointment to the position was premised on the basis of demonstrating high degree of professionalism, transparency, accountability, and credibility.
It was agreed that she would serve as the middle-person between the LNWBF and the diaspora and would foster networks that would promote and advance the growth and development of wheelchair basketball in Liberia.
The Federation stated that it has become practically evident that Mamie Free has drifted away from the initial agreement made with the federation and has since embarked a path of self-seeking ventures.
The LNWBF noted, “It has come to realize that Free’s endeavors and interaction with diaspora sponsors, have not served the best interest of the Federation but she has rather diverted all donations collected in the name of the Federation to her personal use and for her selfish desire.”
She has used the current portfolio entrusted to her by the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation to engage into acts that are counter-productive to the LNWBF.
The LNWBF Board of Directors and Executive Committee in a mass meeting on Monday, February 20, 2024, passed a “Vote of No Confidence” terminating any and all association and affiliation with her.
The letter of revocation of status and termination of association, included a five-count resolution signed by executives of LNWBF which was served to Free by the chairperson of the Board of Directors, Florence MaMusu Thornes.
“The general public is asked not to do any business with Ms. Free in the name of the federation, as doing so may be at their own risk,” the letter stated.
