Mamba Point Warriors Football Club, on Monday December 18, edged out Down Town Football Club 3-2 in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Third Division League played at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
Strikers, Jankualbah Kamara and Christopher B. Jallah, scored the winning side’s first and second goals in the 24th and 35th minutes respectively, and Abraham Kamara hit the third goal with header in the 83rd minute, while Down Town FC’s two goals were scored by Gabriel Omale and Isaac Paintsil in the 29th and 44th minutes.
Striker Jallah attributed his side’s victory over Down Town FC to the forceful pressure they carried out against their opponents in both halves of the game, and called on his fellow players to remain focused for the challenges ahead of them, and thanked his team’s head coach, Jerry Gonowolo, for the coaching tactics he has continued to display among them as players, which, he added, helped them to score two straight victories from two games played yet in the league, and hoped that they will score more victories as time progresses.
Coach Jasper Koon of Down Town blamed members of his team’s forward line for failure to put to better use, the majority of scoring chances they had against their opponents, especially in the second half of the game, but called on them to learn from the mistakes they made that led to their defeat and better prepare themselves for their games to come.
In the day’s early kickoff at the ATS, National Youth Street Soccer defeated Lofa FC 2-1, and the victory is the team’s second in succession, with Coach Obadiah K. Kollie calling on his players to keep on their good ball possession and finishing touches, paying tribute to his team’s President, James Karpeh, for his financial support, which, he emphasized, had helped to keep the team on course for the challenges to come.
