The Mayoress of the Gbarnga City Cooperation (GCC) in Bong County, Lucia Herbert, has slammed the CDC-led government.
According to her, the deficient support from government to her office is an obstacle to the good results of her duties as she cannot run the daily activities of the city cooperation-thus resulting in the dirtiness of the city
She complained that Gbarnga City lacks trucks to transport garbage parked at different street corners and therefore she is now compelled to rent pick-up to aid their operations; something she termed as disappointing.
According to her, over LD 80,000 is spent monthly as rental fees for the pick- up yet, there is no adequate fund allocated to the office.
She said every city government in Liberia was receiving US $50,000 annually as government’s support, but the amount has drastically been reduced to US$ 6,000 since the ascendancy of the Coalition for Democratic Change of President Weah something she described as a “drop in the ocean.”
She is calling on the Bong Legislative Caucus to assist the city cooperation with vehicles as they await the government’s intervention.
However, the Gbarnga City Mayoress told journalists recently that the majority of the workers at the Gbarnga City Cooperation are not on the government’s payroll and they are compensated from the meager funding generated by the city government.
Meanwhile, Mayoress Habert is appealing to the government and prominent sons and daughters of Bong County to support the ongoing city hall construction in the county.
The GCC boss said the city hall project when completed will help the city government in generating funding for the entity.
