Lone Star Completes Back-To-Back Victory Over Sao Tome

The Liberian Senior Men’s National Team (Lone Star) has completed a back-to-back win achievement over the Sao Tome and Principle in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
On March 24, 2025 Lone Star welcomed the weaker side currently in Group G of the African continent qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports complex to start the second leg matches in the qualifiers. Playing to a 2-1 fulltime result, the visitors left the pitch still struggling to get a single point throughout this qualifier after six matches played.
Learning from an early goal advantage that defeated them in their last midweek fixture against Tunisia at the same venue, Lone Star came through with a classical finished in four minutes from the start of the match.
Nicolas Andrews was timely positioned in the goal area of his opponent where he got a direct assist from defender Nelson Laomie and completed the finish for the curtain raiser with a stylish overhead kick.
Playing with more pressure on Sao Tome from the combative start, Brayant Fankalun registered his name in Liberia’s goal account scoring the Lone Star last goal of the match as early as 33 minutes on the match clock.
The two sides managed to play to the result till Luis Costa from Sao Tome came through with a goal cancelation just few minutes before the sound of the halftime whistle. The 2-1 win was Lone Star second success over their visiting guest.
In June 2024, Liberia recovered from a one-all draw with Namibia in this current campaign by defeating Sao Tome one-nil in their first leg meeting. Lone Star win in that encounter came in a late goal scored by Sheik Sesay in the 90th minute.
While Lone Star is currently on the third slot of the group, Sao Tome is struggling at bottom place without a single point so far.
