With high momentum and support from county official, the two teams of Lofa County at the National County Sports Meet have qualified to participate in the quarterfinals, as one of the most consistent set of teams in the last four years.
Lofa County kickball and Football teams stood on their feet against their host, Margibi County, on Wednesday in Kakata City and ensured that there was no remaining hope for any of the representations of Gibi in Monrovia
Before a recorded crowd of residents from three counties playing at the group stage on the Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium, the Girls of Voinjama won a tight race against their host.
A single player from Lofa was able to make her way home to have a 1-0 victory for her county and every other player were prevented from hitting the home base in all five innings of the game.
The boys got a 2-0 win to book a space in Monrovia. Andrew Sadue in the first half and James Tarpeh affectionately called Messi closed the score chances immediately at the start of the second at it was a shutdown of the city with hundreds of fans reechoing, “The Lion is in the town.”
It was the first game of Lofa at the 2023/2024 County meet and they will take on Grand Bassa County in their last match at the same venue.
It is cleared that the boys’ team from Margibi County will not progress to this year’s quarterfinal because of poor grading and lower stand on the group table. They settled to a two-all draw in the first match against Bassa before painfully losing their last match to Lofa.
In recent years, the consistency of Lofa County at the National County Sports Meet has been overwhelming making the fate of many opponents against them unpredictable. In three years, Lofains have been celebrated at the sports meet festival as the ‘lions’ after playing in the finals two time and winning a trophy.
